Our smritis have specified four Ashramas (stages of life) namely Brahmacharya (student stage ), Grihasta ( family stage ), Vanaprastha ( social work stage ) and Sanyasa ( spiritual stage ). Nowadays student life starts after 5 years. As such the child has to depend on the parent and family for its upbringing, exposing it to the possible dangers of neglect, bad upbringing.
Hence I wish that a new Ashram called Balakashram should be introduced to take care of various developmental needs of the child. The government and society should create a new category of caretakers who, along with parents and family, should be trained in different aspects of childcare and personality development. These should include body and brain fitness and capabilities, speech and language skills so as to enable them to face future life confidently. This is essential since the parents and family may have no time, inclination, knowledge and capabilities for these important tasks.
